Baracoa, Cuba Cuba

The city was founded in 1511 by Diego Velázquez, the "Ciudad Primada" preserves its natural beauty, its indigenous heritage, and a unique spirit that distinguishes it from any other corner of the country.

Baracoa offers one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Cuba. Along the horizon stretches the Yunque de Baracoa, its flat shape offering a magical view from the city. Surrounded by the Toa, Miel, and Duaba rivers, which flow through every corner of Baracoa, it is a haven for nature lovers.

Its dark sand beaches, rainforest, trails through tropical forests, and the nearby Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a World Heritage Site, make this destination a paradise for ecotourism, hiking, and contemplation.

Before the arrival of the Spanish, Baracoa was sacred land for the Taíno people, with unique traditions told in sunset legends, in handcrafted pottery, and in the faces of those who proudly preserve the story. Walking through Baracoa is like exploring a piece of Cuba that has never ceased to be indigenous. Rooted in its most ancient traditions, it is home to the best cacao, coconut cones wrapped in prickly pear banana leaves, and unique recipes such as fish in coconut milk, among others.

In the surrounding area, there are a variety of accommodation options, from a private home with a balcony overlooking the seawall to hotels surrounded by the sound of the river, birdsong, or the Atlantic breeze.

Accessible via La Farola Highway, a feat of engineering suspended between mountains and chasms, considered one of Cuba's most beautiful routes. From Santiago de Cuba, the trip is an experience in itself, amidst jungle landscapes, spectacular viewpoints, and small towns.
